Hot Stones Massages are unique type of treatments because most of the massage is done using hot stones that fit perfectly in the therapists' palms and are like extensions of their hands. Throughout your Hot Stones Massage, especially at the beginning, we communicate with you making sure the temp of the stones is not too high and is suitable for your comfort. Very soon after we apply hot stones to your body, you find yourself enjoying deep levels of relaxation and peace.
Hot Stones Massages typically use more oil than regular massages. After we oil your body, we oil a couple of hot stones, one in each hand. In order to make sure stones are not too hot for you & to give your body time to get used to the heat, we first touch your body using our stone heated hands, one hand at a time. Once you get used to the heat, we apply both hot stones together in a beautiful concert of massage movements. Hot stones feel so smooth, warm & amazing as we run them all over your body using long movements that can start at your feet and end at your shoulders, Lomi Lomi Massage style.
Usually, Hot Stones Massages are considered low pressure treatments. At Paradise Massage we make sure to supply good pressure in addition to heat therapy in order to make your massage experience complete and amazing.
Picking the Right Stones
Although massage stones are available to buy online, at Paradise Massage, we hand-pick lava stones here on Maui, which have never been manufactured or modified. We usually find lava stones at Iao Valley, which is a sacred place for Hawaiian culture, or at one of the many Maui beaches. Picking stones for Hot Stone Massages is a special ritual. Once we find a stone that we like, it is very smooth & it fits comfortably in our hands, then we ask for permission from the Hawaiian ancestries to use the stone. Once we feel permission has been granted, we take the stone with us & put it to work & be part of the art of Hot Stone Massage practice. Taking rocks off the island is believed to cause bad luck, so please don't take stones or rocks away from Maui. If you want to practice Hot Stones Massages, always use local stones wherever you are.
Keeping Stones Hot for Your Massage
There are several ways we may keep stones hot when comiing to your house or hotel for an outcall massage. Boiling stones in water and putting them in a cooler in-between hand towels that are soaked with boiling water, is one method. Those stones & towels can stay hot for a couple of hours. Another method is used in case we have several Hot Stones Massages in a row. In this case we use an electrical hot plate that we bring with us. In any case, at Paradise Massage, you receive an amazing Hot Stone Massage that includes hot towels. It is better than any spa massage experience as we deliver the spa to your door step.
